Thursday's sell-off came after Democratic candidates who are critical of AI won big in the midterm elections, raising fears of tighter rules and probes into data centres. Weak results from Qualcomm and Arm added to the pressure. The Philadelphia semiconductor index lost 12.3% and the Nasdaq 100 lost about $2.3 trillion in market value. On Friday the Dow still slipped 0.46%. October payrolls rose by 165,000 and unemployment stayed at 4.1%, and markets still expect the Fed to raise rates in December.
